People Magazine Investigates Offers New Clues on Keddie Cabin Murders, Giving Survivor ‘A Little More Hope’

Might a 35-year-old cold case involving the murders of four people finally be close to being solved?

That’s the hope of Sheila Sharp, who discovered the bodies of her mother, brother and a friend at her family’s cabin in Keddie, California, in 1981, in a mystery re-examined this past Monday in an episode of PEOPLE’s true-crime series, People Magazine Investigates, on Investigation Discovery.

The remains of the fourth victim, Sheila’s sister, who vanished from the family’s home that night, were found three years later.

Now, in the People Magazine Investigates After Show, Sheila shares her reaction upon learning that a reopened investigation has yielded new clues.

PEOPLE Magazine Investigates After Show: Survivor Sheila Sharp on the 1981 Keddie Cabin Murders of Her Family

For 35 years, Sheila Sharp has tried to repress the memory of finding the brutally murdered bodies of her mother and older brother in her family’s cabin home in the Sierra Nevada Mountains — a crime that remains unsolved.

At least one other person was killed that night: her teenage brother’s friend, whose body also was found by then 14-year-old Sheila on the living room floor of Cabin 28 in Keddie, California, on the morning of April 12, 1981. A fourth victim, Sheila’s younger sister, was missing. Her fate remained unknown until her skeletal remains turned up in the woods three years later, as recounted Monday night in an episode of PEOPLE’s new true-crime series on Investigation Discovery, People Magazine Investigates.

Tonight on the Investigation Discovery Channel, their harrowing tale will be told on the show Dead Silent. California authorities went on an 18-day manhunt to find Benjamin Peter Ashley, a homeless drifter who they believe also killed David Louis Markiewitz, after holding the boys hostage. Authorities say Ashley also shot two cops. The Dead Silent episode recounting the tale is “The Desert Drifter.” On the show, Investigation Discovery viewers will hear a first-hand account from the three victims about their survival and escape.
