TV show coming soon on Irish woman wrongly accused of murder

150 years ago there was no International Women’s Day. There wasn’t even a vote for women. So what chance for a poor illiterate, indigent Irish woman facing a murder trial before an all-male jury in New Jersey?

What chance then, what chance now?

The case of Bridget Deignan (sometimes written as Durgan) was once open and shut.

Author Sheila Duane opened it again.

Now it is about to be opened and shut a second time by a TV show.

With the same result as before.

Bridget would begin her short life in Sligo.

According to Sheila Duane, author of “Bridget’s Hanging,” Bridget was executed for a crime she did not commit, and by citizens who despised the Irish, the impoverished, and feared and distrusted Catholics.

That hanging is soon to be recreated on a TV show,

Dumb criminals keep getting caught thanks to pizza

When AJ Soprano and his pals vandalized the pool at his prep school on “The Sopranos,” it wasn’t a snitch that brought them down — it was pizza.

Specifically a pizza with double meatballs, pepperoni, sausage, peppers, onions and extra “moozadell.” After cops confront the pizza man with the evidence and ask who had purchased the pie, he reluctantly drops a dime on AJ. The teen faces expulsion — and the wrath of his mob-boss father.

But this saucy scenario isn’t limited to fiction. In the last two years, pies have helped crack nearly a half-dozen high-profile crimes.

Pizza deliveries tipped cops off to international fugitives and preserved DNA evidence that blew open a gruesome D.C.-area quadruple homicide. Most recently in Illinois, a mugging of a pizzaman led investigators to criminals who had just murdered a man in Georgia.

Call it a slice of justice.

“Pizza hunger trumps better judgement,” says Candice DeLong, a former

Albany murderer focus of ‘Deadly Women’episode

Sara D. Moore, 35, was charged with murder in 2014 after Albany police said they found Richard Englander dying inside his home. (Albany Police Department)

The savagery of deadly caretaker Sara Moore will be known far beyond Albany.

The convicted murderer who in 2014 bludgeoned defenseless patient Richard Englander, 79, and slashed his throat inside his Albany townhouse will be the subject of the show “Deadly Women” on the Investigation Discovery Channel at 9 p.m. Friday.

Moore, 37, formerly of Wynantskill, will be one of three killers profiled in the episode, titled “The Vulnerable.” The show will include interviews with Albany County Assistant District Attorney Shannon Sarfoh, who prosecuted the case and heads the Special Victims Unit, as well as with Law Beat, which is quite familiar with the case.

Moore faced so much damning evidence that her plea bargain still carried 25 years to life, the prison sentence most

Robinson resident Joyce Sturdivant’s murder of her husband Joe Sturdivant Jr. in 2008 gets revisited on the cable channel Investigation Discovery’s “Deadly Women” series at 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3.

Sturdivant was found guilty in 2011 of shooting her husband, owner of a Waco auto repair shop, in the back of the head while he was sleeping in bed. A McLennan County jury also found her guilty of trying to hire others to kill her husband. She was sentenced to 30 years in prison for murder and an additional 15 years for attempted capital murder.

Sturdivant, 63 at the time of the murder, is one of three cases examined in the “Granny Gets A Gun” episode airing Saturday night. The other two cases involve a 64-year-old Florida woman who shot her husband in the back of the head,

Investigation Discovery: Kenda, Candice And Paula Return With New Seasons

Investigation Discovery “addicts” are in luck the next couple of weeks when some of the network’s most beloved personalities and favorite shows return for new seasons. From noir-ish tales of a former homicide detective to current investigations to profiles of some of the most dangerous women who ever lived, Investigation Discovery probably has a show you’ll love, if you are into true crime stories.

Everybody loves retired homicide detective Lt. Joe Kenda, or at least everybody he hasn’t put behind bars. Kenda narrates stories of his days working as a Colorado homicide detective, and the man has a natural knack for storytelling. In fact, Homicide Hunter films Kenda telling his stories, then writes the scripts for the reenactments, done by a hunky actor who makes the ladies swoon. If you browse a few Facebook groups, you’ll find that some of the ladies even seem to carry a bit of a torch
