Michael Overstreet, who raped and murdered Kelly Eckart when she was just 18

The wife of Michael Dean Overstreet has revealed he had an obsession with knives before he raped and murdered 18-year-old college student Kelly Eckart.

Melissa Holland said: “He would sharpen them with a wet rock and make sure they were all razor sharp. I mean, he did it religiously every day.

“He would arrange them in patterns and take pictures of them. Those were his pride and joy basically.

“At first it didn’t bother me. But then I started noticing how Dean always carried a knife with him if not more than one — but he always had one on his side like a hunting knife, and he would tie it to his leg with a string.

“I started getting a little bit nerve-wrecked about that,

Death Before Dawn: Who Murdered a Rich Calif. Couple While They Slept in Their Mansion?

The scene deputies encountered upon arriving at the mansion in the posh California beach town of San Juan Capistrano was as horrific as it was unlikely.

In the early morning hours of Feb. 9, 2014, real estate mogul Andra Sachs and her husband Brad lay dead in their bed, riddled with bullets. The couple’s 8-year-old son had sustained a gunshot wound that would leave him paralyzed from the waist down.

“First thing we noticed was shell casings on the ground, broken glass — just a terrible scene,” Sgt. Justin Montano of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office says in an exclusive clip of the upcoming episode of People Magazine Investigates, titled “Death Before Dawn,” which airs tonight at 9 p.m. ET on Investigation Discovery.

Before the murders, the Sachs family led a seemingly charmed life. They owned a $2.5 million mansion that was nearly 9,000 square feet. Andra was a self-made success story

Did an Alaska Fisherman Point to His Murderers in a Letter Before His Death?

In the mystery of who killed Kent Leppink, no clue was more tantalizing than a letter from the the victim written before his death suggesting where to find his alleged killers.

What Happened to the McStays, Who Vanished 3 Years Before They Were Found Buried in the Desert?

In 2010, a picture-perfect family of four vanished without a trace four months after moving into a new house in the San Diego suburb of Fallbrook, California.

Three years later, in November 2013, a motorcyclist stumbled upon a skull in the Mojave Desert and called investigators who — soon after — uncovered two shallow graves containing the remains of a man, a woman and two little boys.

The missing McStay family had been found.

The mystery of who killed them and why will be the focus of Monday night’s episode of People Magazine Investigates on Investigation Discovery.

The disappearance of Joseph McStay, 40, his 43-year-old wife, Summer, and sons Gianni, 4, and Joseph Jr., 3, was largely treated as a missing-persons case until their bodies were discovered in 2013.

As authorities learned, the foursome, who were last seen alive on Feb. 4, 2010, had all been viciously beaten to

Did He Kill His Family? Exclusive Photos of Jeffrey MacDonald’s Family Before the Murders that Shocked America

For the past 47 years, former Green Beret Surgeon Jeffrey MacDonald has steadfastly maintained he did not murder his pregnant wife and two young children on Feb. 17, 1970 – despite being convicted of the crime in 1979.

Prosecutors are just as adamant he’s guilty, but on January 26, MacDonald’s attorneys will go before an appeals court for an “actual innocence” claim, a legal term that sets a high bar for exonerations.

MacDonald’s story was featured on the cover of last week’s edition of PEOPLE, and was the focus of the season finale of People Magazine Investigates, on Investigation Discovery, in an episode entitled ‘The Accused.’

Newlywed Robert Herweyer, 23, died in a freak accident involving a large vat of molasses just one week before his wife was due to give birth to the couple’s first child. Herweyer drowned in a large container of molasses after he entered the unit to adjust a faulty valve. However, after fixing the valve, the father-to-be’s coworker says Herweyer became unconscious and drowned before he could be retrieved from the container.

The Miami Herald reports that a Michigan father-to-be is dead following a horrifying workplace accident. Robert Herweyer worked for Agri-Technology and was attempting to fix a faulty valve inside of a 12-foot-tall molasses container when he fell unconscious and drowned beneath the syrupy mixture. Herweyer was still a newlywed when the horrific accident took place. He had just married his wife, Joy, last November, and the pair were expecting their first child together next week. Sadly, instead of celebrating
