ABC Developing Comedy Dealing With Mental Illness From ‘My Name Is Earl’ Producer (EXCLUSIVE)

ABC is developing a comedy series with Bobby Bowman based on Bowman’s childhood, Variety has learned exclusively.

The untitled single-camera series looks at the unexpected benefits of growing up in a family with a dad who has mental illness, as Bowman’s father did. Bowman will serve as writer and executive producer. Dawn Ostroff and Jon Koa of Condé Nast Entertainment (CNE) will also executive produce, along with Greg Walter of 3 Arts Entertainment. ABC Studios will produce.

Bowman has frequently collaborated with Greg Garcia, having worked as a writer and/or producer on Garcia’s shows “Raising Hope,” “My Name Is Earl,” “Yes, Dear,” and “The Millers.” His other credits include “Family Guy,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” and “Flaked.”

Bowman is repped by ICM Partners.

Expectations for Murder Chose Me Season 2 have been sky-high ever since Investigation Discovery announced the show’s renewal back in May. Fortunately for MCM’s growing legions of fans, what we’ve learned about the new episodes and their production should give you every reason to be thrilled for what’s ahead.

For starters, star John Nicholson, who portrays Detective Rod Demery, told us that he, “along with Rod the entire production crew, are really excited about working on Season 2,” and that they’re all “trying to build upon what started in Season 1.” John added that “the scripts and guest star casting have been awesome this season.”

Netflix Renews ‘Last Chance U’ for Third Season (Exclusive)

Netflix is ready to return to the field.

The streaming giant has renewed college football docuseries Last Chance U for a third season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The upcoming season will see the series move from East Mississippi Community College to Kansas’ Independence Community College. The team, the Independence Pirates, are fresh off their first winning season in a decade, aided by then first-year head coach Jason Brown.

Once again, Last Chance U will follow a group of college football players as they grapple with past failings and try to get to the next level of their pigskin careers. 

“While we now have the opportunity to head to Kansas, we hope to revisit the people we’ve grown to love over the past two seasons of Last Chance U,” said director Greg Whiteley. “We are forever grateful to the talented team at East Mississippi Community College, who dedicated months of their lives

Investigation Discovery Presents An Exclusive Clip Of A New Episode Of ‘The Coroner: I Speak For The Dead’

Since it first hit the airwaves, Investigation Discovery has become the premier home for true crime stories and series told from countless different perspectives.

One of the biggest hits on the show is called The Coroner: I Speak for the Dead, which is hosted by Graham Hetrick, the coroner of Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, who recently retired after 25 years on the job. Narrated by him in the first person, Hetrick tells the stories of some of the most infamous murders in the area and the role he played in solving them.

In a press release for the new episode, which will air on Investigation Discovery on August 21, it was revealed that Hetrick will be talking about the murder of Kathryn Bishop in her Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, home.

The community is baffled as to who would want to hurt the woman fondly known as the super-grandma of the neighborhood.

Exclusive: Radley Studios taps Christie McConnell as development head

Los Angeles-based prodco Radley Studios has hired Christie McConnell as head of development and VP of television.

In the newly created role, McConnell will oversee Radley’s core unscripted television business, working alongside Ben Grayson, director of development.

McConnell previously held development roles at All3Media, Shine America and Stephen David Entertainment. Her development and production credits include History’s The Men Who Built America and The World Wars, Tru TV’s Fake Off, and Discovery’s Gold Fever. She most recently served as showrunner for the Nashville Facebook Live aftershow, as well as producing live, digital and branded content for Whalerock Industries.

Joe Berlinger has spent the majority of his filmmaking career investigating the criminal justice system. But the veteran docmaker says that while he may be known as a director and producer professionally, he is a father first.

So when he came across a story in the news about the deaths and disappearances of six young women in southern Ohio, he wanted to investigate.

Berlinger’s findings will be unveiled in the forthcoming TV docuseries, Gone: The Forgotten Women of Ohioan eight-hour program produced by RadicalMedia in association with Third Eye Motion Picture Company for Spike TV.

Many of the women who disappeared, Berlinger found out, were addicted to drugs or involved in prostitution. In the small town of Chillicothe, the families of the victims felt that no one was pursuing their cases because of their daughters’ supposed risky lifestyles.
