Fall Festival car show to benefit ‘Shop with a Cop’

This year’s Fall Festival will give Petal residents a chance to give back while enjoying all that the annual event has to offer.

The car show, which draws a crowd each year, will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Hinton Park. No entry fee is required. All donations will benefit Petal Police Department’s Shop with a Cop, which is held each year before Christmas. Children are invited for a shopping spree with Petal officers.

Celebrity Judge Rodie Sanchez from Discovery Channel’s “Killing Fields” will be on hand for the 2017 show. 

Awards will be given for best paint, best interior, best stock truck, best rat rod, best modified, best Ford, best motor, best modified truck, best pre ’49, best pre ’69, best convertible, best Chevy, best Pontiac, best Dodge, best street rod, best hard top, best new school hot rod, kid’s choice, mayor’s pick and best in show.

ROMEO AND JULIET Now on the Road in Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival's WillPower Tour

From the page and to the stage, William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet launches Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival’s annual WillPower Tour which will perform for 50 schools across Pennsylvania and New Jersey through November 17.

Now in its 18th year, the WillPower Tour has served more than 174,000 students in 40 of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties as well as New Jersey and Delaware. The tour includes a professionally directed 80-minute production with set and costumes, trained actor-teachers, and quality curriculum through workshops and other sessions with the students.

“The live theatre experience is the perfect complement for educators and students when incorporated before, during, or after reading the text of Romeo and Juliet in the classroom,” says Jill Arington, PSF Education Director.

Festival of Lights shine at Rockhound State Park – Las Cruces Sun

More than 1,000 luminarias will light the walkways, adobe walls, native garden and labyrinth at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Rockhound State Park. Visitors are encouraged to enjoy a stroll through the scenery, Christmas music, hot cider, cookies, a fire-pit, and seeing Santa Claus, at the annual Friends of Rockhound State Park Festival of Lights.

With the help of a range of community volunteer efforts, the Festival of Lights has been taking place annually for roughly 10 to 12 years. Every year, volunteers collaborate to light several areas of the Rockhound State Park with exactly 1,152 authentic sandbag luminarias.

Musgraves, Tritt to headline 2017 Country Music Festival – Las Cruces Sun

LAS CRUCES — It really was the “wow” factor Thursday as organizers announced the list of entertainers who will perform at the 2017 Las Cruces Country Music Festival.

Grammy winners Kacey Musgraves and Travis Tritt will be joined by The Marshall Tucker Band, Tanya Tucker, and Dan and Shay. Also performing will be Las Crucen Bri Bagwell, whose video “Las Cruces” has been nominated for a regional Emmy Award.
