While true crime’s status as the genre du jour is evident across streaming sites such as Netflix, and podcasts such as Serial and S Town, one cable network in particular is reaping the benefits — and has been for a decade. Realscreen takes a close look at Investigation Discovery’s first decade.

The demand for true crime is palpable – audiences across platforms are eating up gruesome tales of affairs gone wrong, people falsely (and correctly) accused of murder, and all the other hallmarks of the extremely hot genre.

In 2017, Investigation Discovery execs can rattle off impressive facts and figures about being the most popular network in America for unscripted true stories, among women 25-54, in total day; number one for length of tune for the P25-54 demo; and a Peabody award for Deborah S. Mother speaks for first time since daughter’s murder in 2004 – WAVY

ISLE OF WIGHT, Va. (WAVY) — New technology may help to crack a 2004 murder case in Isle of Wight County.

For the first time since the case went cold, 10 On Your Side is hearing from the victim’s mother and getting another look at a suspected killer and his profile.

“It’s hard for me to wrap my brain around someone who would do such a horrible crime,” Patty Lord said.

Police say someone found 28-year-old Carrie Singer’s body in a field, half-naked and her head severely beaten on July 1, 2004.  She was last seen alive the day her body was found.

Paramount TV, Anonymous Content Set First-Look Deal With Condé Nast Entertainment

Paramount TV and Anonymous Content have signed a first-look deal with Condé Nast Entertainment (CNE).

Under the deal, the companies will work together to develop and produce scripted series. Effective immediately, Paramount TV and Anonymous Content will be given an opportunity to join CNE in producing the scripted projects.

“Condé Nast is an incredible force with many celebrated brands and we look forward to an exciting, creative partnership together,” said Amy Powell, president of Paramount TV. “We are thrilled to embark on this journey with Dawn and Steve and all the bright minds at CNE and Anonymous Content.”

CNE’s TV division had eight television series sold or renewed in 2017, including “Last Chance U” for Netflix, which is in its third season on the streamer; “Vanity Fair Confidential” on Investigation Discovery; and the GQ digital short, “Most Expensivest” with 2 Chainz, which was picked up by Viceland

Renewed and Returning: “Cash Cab,” “Married at First Sight”

In this week’s renewed and returning, new seasons of shows are on the slate for Discovery, Food Network, TLC and other networks.

The Emmy-winning show Cash Cab is returning to Discovery in 2017. Revamped by All3Media’s Lion USA, the show has a new twist with unsuspecting passengers being ambushed by America’s favorite celebrities.

Ayesha Curry, cookbook author, social media maven, mother of two and wife to NBA superstar Stephen Curry, returns to Food Network with a new season (6×30) of all-new episodes in Ayesha’s Home Kitchen (High Noon Entertainment). The new series airs April 30 at 12:30 p.m. ET/PT.
