Final Vision (8 p.m., Investigation Discovery) – A new movie about the 1970 murders of Jeffrey MacDonald’s family in Fort Bragg, told from the perspective of writer Joe McGinniss, who shadowed MacDonald during his 1979 trial in Raleigh and wrote the book “Fatal Vision.” Scott Foley (“Scandal”) plays MacDonald and Dave Annable (“Brothers Sisters”) plays McGinniss. At 10 p.m., there’s a special called “Dr. Jeffrey MacDonald: People Magazine Investigates,” which tells the story through interviews and archival footage.

Scott Foley’s approach to acting starts the same way no matter the project. He believes it is his job to tell the most complete story possible through his performance. As in the case of the Investigation Discovery film “Final Vision,” which airs at 10 p.m. Sunday, Foley finds the script has most of what he needs but he continues to dig just a little deeper.
What he found with the made-for-cable film is a script based on the true story of the longest-running criminal case in U.S. history. Jeffrey MacDonald (Foley) is a handsome, Ivy League-educated U.S. Army Green Beret doctor who was convicted of brutally murdering his pregnant wife and two young daughters in 1970. Scott Foley and Guillermo Diaz are getting into their own scandals, sans Kerry Washington and company.
The Scandal costars, who portray lovable assassins on the ABC drama, take on different deadly roles in a pair of new Investigation Discovery (ID) movies. In exclusive clips from each, the actors channel real-life notorious killers.
Premiering Dec. 3 at 8 p.m. ET, Dating Game Killer stars Diaz as serial killer Rodney Alcala, who appeared on The Dating Game in 1978 amidst his murder spree. Alcala’s victim count is unknown, but it’s believed it could have been more than 100 women and children. Carrie Preston (The Good Wife) and Robert Knepper (Prison Break) also star.
