Friday cable ratings: ‘Gold Rush’ holds steady

Once again, the Discovery Channel’s “Gold Rush” continued its reign over the rest of the programs in the Friday cable ratings last week, scoring a 1.0 rating in adults 18-49 for the second week in a row. It was the only show to break through the 1.0 barrier that night, as several “Big Bang Theory” and “Family Guy” reruns followed behind with 0.7s on TBS and Adult Swim.

Rounding out the major ratings, ESPN’s coverage of NBA basketball landed them near the top Friday night, with a couple night games giving the network 0.7s at both 8:04 p.m. and 10:41 p.m.

Review #1: Chocolate City Burlesque’s Third Annual ‘Black Friday’

Print Friendly

Chocolate City Burlesque and Cabaret (CCBC) is a troupe that excels at putting on the most sensational burlesque shows it can on D.C. stages. The troupe did just that in their third annual Black Friday show at GALA Hispanic Theatre last night.

Led by CCBC Co-Founder and burlesque impresario Ché Monique (who also produced the Capital Fringe Festival show CAKE! last summer, which was about her real-life decision to jump out of a cake during a show), Black Friday included a spectacular lineup, including special guest burlesque legend, Toni Elling (aka the Satin Doll, Duke Ellington’s Muse, who has been in the business since the early 1960s) and guest performers Zou Zou the Hooping Sensation and Chicava Honeychild (proprietress and creative director of New York’s Brown Girls Burlesque). An interactive experience with opportunities for audience participation and a dance break at

1990 Rock Hill murder Friday on Investigation Discovery ‘Nightmare …

The season premiere of the hit show ‘Nightmare next Door’ on the Investigation Discovery channel Friday night features a 1990 rape and killing of a Rock Hill woman, and her family’s fight to keep the killer in prison.

The show features Andrew Dys, columnist for The Herald, who was the first person to report that convicted killer Edward Cronell was up for parole in the brutal sexual assault and shooting death of Melinda Snyder because of an old South Carolina law – since changed – that allowed people with life sentences convicted in the 1990s and before to seek parole after 20 years in prison.
