Behind Oxygen’s Killer Rebranding

High-end true-crime series such as Netflix’s Making a Murderer and This American Life podcast Serial played a significant part in Oxygen’s decision to remake itself as the destination for crime series. The rebrand has been gradual, but it’s now kicking in in earnest, with a new logo making its way to air, and the resurrection of Dick Wolf’s Cold Justice series, which debuts July 22, among other crime show launches.

Rod Aissa, Oxygen executive VP of original programming and development, said the wildly popular crime series on Netflix and podcasts such as Serial revealed a younger version of the true-crime fan that Oxygen executives found intriguing. He speaks of a new wave of women consuming those pop-culture staples.

“We’re looking to engage with younger women,” he said, “this next generation of crime viewer.”

Oxygen was launched in 2000 by Geraldine Laybourne, Oprah Winfrey and

Hear No Evil spotlights suspected serial killer Mike DeBardeleben known as the Mall Passer

Mike DeBardeleben or the Mall Passer

Mike DeBardeleben became known as the Mall Passer for forging money but his other crimes were far more sinister

This week Hear No Evil investigates the very disturbing case of Mike DeBardeleben, the so-called “Mall Passer” or “Mall Killer”.

During the early 1980s the Secret Service had been investigating a new counterfeit operation and had began handing out sketches of the suspect to various stores. In the trunk were thousands in fake money, a stash of pornography, various drugs, stolen license plates, fake drivers licenses, a forged police badge, police lights and

Killer Ari Squire, who staged his own death with his victim’s body

A bizarre murder case where the killer staged his own death with his victim’s body — in a bid to claim millions in life insurance — features tonight on Investigation Discovery’s Six Degrees of Murder series.

Ari Squire, 39, killed 20-year-old Justin Newman after luring him to his home on the promise of a construction job.

He then swapped clothes and wallets with his victim, who resembled Squire, before pinning his body under a truck at his home in Lake Barrington, Illinois, and setting it on fire.

Squire bought blue contact lenses and brown hair dye to try and look more like Newman, before going on the run.

It’s thought Squire was trying to cash in on a $5million
