The Unsolved: Investigation Discovery Orders True-Crime Cold Case Series

The Vanishing Women TV show on Investigation Discovery: season 1 (canceled or renewed?)

Investigation Discovery is on the case. Deadline reports the network has ordered a new TV show called The Unsolved.

The six-part true crime series “follows former Rhode Island Police Sergeant Derrick Levasseur and Forensic Psychologist Kris Mohandie as they answer the pleas of desperate families to investigate murder cases that have exhausted all possible leads and have officially gone cold.”

The Unsolved is slated to premiere on Investigation Discovery in April.

Pulse Films Secures Access To The UN; C4 Orders European Union Doc Series

EXCLUSIVE: The tumultuous political climate in 2018 has opened the door for fly-on-the-wall documentaries about major political institutions such as the United Nations and the European Union. I hear that Vice-owned producer Pulse Films has secured access to the global political organization, while UK broadcaster Channel 4 has announced a behind-the-scenes series within the EU.

I understand that Pulse Films secured access to the UN last week and the company, which has produced television series including History’s The New Age of Terror and BBC race doc Black Is The New Black as well as feature docs such as Sundance entry Trophy, is set to take the project out to U.S and UK broadcasters and streaming services in the New Year. Quest UK orders Woodcut’s historical “Wings of War” docuseries

Discovery’s British fact-ent free-to-air channel Quest has commissioned London-based indie Woodcut Media to produce the military aviation docuseries Wings of War.

Through expert interviews, authentic recreations, engineering graphics and archive footage, the 10 x 60-minute docuseries (pictured) will examine how planes and their pilots defined military history over 100 years of aeronautical warfare and how technology allowed aerial combat to advance.

Among the topics included in the series are the bombers of WWII; the Voisin used for artillery spotting; the Cold War’s military installation photographing Blackbird; the birth of the jet engine; and the Eurofighter Typhoon.

London-based distributor TCB Media Rights, who provided deficit financing, is distributing the series internationally.

Wings of War is exec produced by Woodcut’s Adam Jacobs and Kate Beal, and Jamie Watkins for Discovery. It was commissioned by Simon Downing, SVP, head of Quest and Eurosport at Discovery Networks UK

Investigation Discovery Orders Scripted True Crime Series ‘The Von Bulow Affair’

Investigation Discovery is continuing its push into scripted programming.

The Discovery-owned cabler has ordered Universal Cable Production’s six-part scripted true crime series The Von Bulow Affair (working title), The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Based on Williams Wright’s book of the same name, The Von Bulow Affair drama chronicles one of the murder trials of Danish-born aristocrat Claus von Bulow who attempted to murder his heiress wife Sunny twice by insulin overdose to inherit her millions and marry his mistress. Although her death was initially suspected to be an overdose, her son Alex and daughter Ala spearheaded a private investigation that ultimately convinced the Rhode Island D.A. to make their stepfather a suspect in her murder.

Investigation Discovery Orders First Scripted Program ‘Serial Thriller’ (Exclusive)

Investigation Discovery is getting into the scripted game.

The Discovery Communications-owned cable channel is releasing Serial Thriller, a ripped-from-the-headlines miniseries looking at a community terrorized by serial killer. The three-episode, hourlong series delves into untold stories of the residents and victims, as well as the detectives investigating the killer as they attempt to catch him before he strikes again.

Based on a real serial killer, the miniseries is slated for a summer 2015 premiere.
