Stephanie Lazarus Case: Why LAPD Detective Committed Murder …

In the decades after 29-year-old Sherri Rae Rasmussen was found bludgeoned and fatally shot in February 1986, her family never gave up hope of finding her killer.

Los Angeles police believed the nursing administrator died during a violent robbery and home invasion of the condo she shared with her new husband. But Rasmussen’s relatives suspected her spouse’s ex-girlfriend: LAPD officer Stephanie Lazarus.

Lazarus, Rasmussen’s parents said, had threatened Rasmussen at her workplace before she died, telling her, “If I can’t have John, nobody can.”

How L.A. police eventually traced the murder to one of their own is the focus of Monday night’s episode of People Magazine Investigates on Investigation Discovery. An exclusive preview appears above.

Ross County Authorities say Stephanie Jo Evans was dumped in the Scioto River in Chillicothe, Ohio, 15 years ago. The killer, Thomas James McCray, left her baby strapped in a car seat near a creek bed all night. The Swamp Murders episode chronicling the brutal murder is titled, “Rocky Waters.”

Stephanie Bennett, Drew Planten: Investigation Discovery Shines Light On Lake Lynn Rape, Murder Of North Carolina …

Stephanie Bennett of the Lake Lynn murder case in Raleigh, North Carolina, will be show on Investigation Discovery’s next Unusual Suspects, a compelling crime documentary series that features true crime cases that involved an unusual suspect. Stephanie Bennett was murdered in 2002 in her apartment, which she shared with her roommate. It took detectives three years to finally get the evidence to crack the case. The 35-year old man indicted was Drew Edward Planten, a shy and antisocial misfit who had a penchant for raping and killing women. Planten was never brought to justice. WRAL reported that the mentally-disturbed man committed suicide by hanging himself in his jail cell before he could be brought to trial.
