TCA: Discovery Communications unveils new shows for ID, Science

As part of Discovery Communication’s TCA press tour presentation held Wednesday (July 26), the network group unveiled a raft of air dates for previously announced programs, documentaries and returning series, as well as new projects including Investigation Discovery’s Drew Peterson: An American Murder Mystery and Science Channel’s Mysteries of the Missing.

The Discovery Communications-owned true crime network unveiled its latest installment of its ‘An American Murder Mystery’ strand.

Drew Peterson: An American Murder Mystery, a two-hour special, will unravel the murder of Stacy Peterson, a 23-year-old mother of four who vanished from her Chicago home in October 2007, with her husband, police sergeant Drew Peterson, a suspect. As police dug further into Peterson’s story, who maintained his innocence and claimed to have no involvement in the disappearance of his fourth wife, law enforcement discovered that Peterson’s third wife, Kathleen Savio, died under suspicious circumstances.

Upfront ’17: Discovery unveils 2017/2018 programming slate

Discovery Communications has unveiled its programming slate for the upcoming year, including a show that puts people in complete darkness and a series that explores how technology is being used to hack banks, casinos and prisons.

DISCOVERY CHANNEL

Discovery Channel has added 18 new series as well as 20 returning shows to its 2017/2018 lineup.

New programs for the season include survival series Darkness, where three strangers endure days buried underground; Devil’s Canyon, featuring three gold-seeking prospectors in B.C.; Gold Rush: Parker’s Trail; and Cold Case Alaska.

Discovery’s iconic Motor Monday is going into hire gear with a series of car-related programs including House of Cars (w/t), Garage Rehab and Motorheads (w/t). It’s also reviving Cash Cab, where unwitting passengers expecting a normal taxi find out they’re instant contestants in for a potentially lucrative ride.

Upfronts ’16: Discovery unveils 2016/17 programming slates

Discovery Communications is targeting a millennial audience with a web-native network focused on science and exploration and featuring a host of VR projects, the company revealed at its Upfront presentation in New York this week.

The “Seeker” net promises to premiere more than 250 videos of “socially-driven content” each month, and will live across multiple digital platforms as well as the Seeker.com platform, launching in May.

Programming includes the ‘Seeker VR’ strand, which will feature a series of short-form VR docs immersing audiences in the translocation of rhinos in Nepal. Another VR experience titled Edge of the Earth 360 is a VR trip 100,000 feet in the air via weather balloon, and will be debuting in May.

Meanwhile, ‘Seeker Docs’ includes a slate of short-form docs that feature “incredible people leading impactful lives,” while ‘Seeker Live’ consists of a week of livestreams in May. Featured participants are Trace Dominguez and Amy Shira Teitel, who will deliver live science
